Symptoms of Heartburn
Symptoms of Heartburn
Heartburn is a common condition that affects more than 70 million Americans annually. It typically begins with a burning sensation that starts in the upper
abdomen and moves up into the chest, often making its way to the back of the throat, and sometimes up into the jaw, arms and back. It usually feels worse when lying down or bending forward.
Heartburn (GERD, Acid Reflux, Pyrosis) could be just a minor discomfort after eating a heavy meal or it could be a chronic condition affecting quality of your life. This site was created based on my personal experience living with chronic heartburn and acid reflux. Usually doctors refer to it as GERD or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. Once GERD appeared in my life several years ago I thought that my life has changed and there is no turning back.
Heartburn occurs when the valve between the esophagus and the stomach relaxes at the wrong time, allowing stomach acid to spill upwards and cause a burning sensation in the chest or throat.
Almonds: chew six to eight almonds during the heartburn attack. It will help you to relive the symptoms. While chewing, try not to swallow air otherwise it can cause you additional discomfort.
Meadowsweet can be used to help treat stomach problems such as diarrhea, nausea, heartburn, hyperacidity, gastritis, and peptic ulcers. However, the effectiveness meadowsweet has on these GI conditions is unknown. Meadowsweet also contains a mild degree of anti-inflammatory properties and may be beneficial for individuals who suffer from gout or other inflammatory conditions.
Another herb commonly recommended for heartburn natural relief is peppermint. You will often see peppermint oil listed as an ingredient in over the counter medications for helping heartburn and relieving gas. However, some doctors advise that eating peppermint or mints of any kind may bring on heartburn in some people. It is often helpful to keep a food diary for a few months, noting which foods seem to bring on heartburn and which remedies are helping heartburn
For centuries, nature has proven itself to be very powerful especially when it comes to medicinal treatments. The natural heartburn relief through herbal drugs is not supported by scientists because these are not backed up by their research. However, many people believe in this kind of treatment because it has shown to be very effective for many heartburn patients.
Some of the natural cures for heartburn that have been used through the ages is to swallow a spoonful of vinegar, to drink a couple ounces of Aloe Vera juice (this is done either when you feel the heartburn coming on or you can drink the juice before you eat something that can give you heartburn). Other people have claimed that they ate raw almonds in order to get some heartburn relief. I think that many of these heartburn cures are dependant on the individual, and you need to stumble on the one that works for you.
